The 9th of November marked the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, a remarkable moment at the end of the 20th century that led to German reunification.

Our year 8 German students reflected on the events on a special lesson held that week.

They first looked at why the wall was originally constructed and students were asked to imagine what life would have been like for those surrounded by the wall. They then learnt about the fall of the wall and what that meant not just for Germany but for Europe too.

Inspired by the 30th anniversary, art installation “Vision in Motion”,the class created their own artwork, which combined the German flag with messages written on handprints. Together their wall is a reminder of a pivotal moment of hope in world history.
