As part of our celebrations for European Day of Languages, 56 Wyvern students in Year 8 swapped their usual role and became teachers for a lesson. In pairs, they prepared a range of activities to teach German to pupils in Years 1 and 2 in Fair Oak Infant School. They showed real effort and enthusiasm to come up with ideas and create materials, in a very short period, with pupils presented with stickers and certificates for their keen participation.

Our students covered various topics including numbers, colours, animals, food, weather and sports amongst others and invented board games, card games and speaking and listening activities.

We have some real teachers in the making and some of the Fair Oak staff loved welcoming back former pupils, marvelling at how far they have come. Thank you to all who took part.

Wyvern College supported World Mental Health Day, on Thursday 9th October.

Information/activity packs were prepared for all our tutors to share with their tutor groups and our staff showed their support by wearing yellow, or a yellow accessory.

We also had a representative from the School Nurse Team visiting during break 1, promoting the CHAT Health scheme for teenagers. ChatHealth is a confidential text messaging service that enables children and young people (aged 11-19) to contact their local public health nursing (school nursing) team.

The Wyvern Academy Trust is governed by a committed group of Members and Trustees (formerly known as Governors). A recent skills evaluation confirmed our opinion that the Trustees would benefit from appointing a person with financial qualifications/ expertise. This would strengthen our oversight of this important aspect of college life.

If you know of anyone who would be willing to volunteer to support the college in one of these roles then please do email the Clerk , Mrs Fran Petrie – F. Petrie@

The role of a Trustee involves joining the board and being part of the Finance/ Audit committee. The board and the committee usually meet a total of 12 times a year on a Monday evening from 6 – 8pm.

Prospective nominees must agree to criminal records /safeguarding checks to be completed prior to being appointed.

Please do consider if you can support Wyvern in this way. It is very worthwhile, and you will be welcomed and supported by a friendly and helpful team of Trustees , Members and staff .

We have two vacancies in our Wyvern Childcare unit – with application deadlines fast approaching.
