Wyvern College is at the forefront of training teachers of the future. We offer a friendly and supportive working environment, with highly experienced staff on hand to mentor and support trainees.
As part of this commitment, Wyvern College is delighted to be a strategic partner in the Wildern Partnership Initial Teacher Training programme, offering salaried and non-salaried posts. Trainees are supported by both school mentors and subject tutors from the Wildern SCITT, graded Ofsted Outstanding in November 2016. The SCITT also offers the PGCE at Masters level, accredited by the University of Chichester.
In addition, Wyvern College is part of an alliance with Southampton University, which offers the opportunity for postgraduates to work in schools and have the support of a world class university. Trainees will be supported by both school mentors and university staff, who will work together to ensure that the course prepares teachers effectively for a career in education.
The College is passionate about the professional development of all staff, including trainees, offering a wide range of opportunities as part of our internal programme of INSET days, twilight sessions, external meetings, and courses at other schools or through external providers. Trainees are also encouraged to play a full part in all aspects of college life, by supporting a tutor group of students, taking part in educational visits and trips, or contributing to extra-curricular activities. We also welcome the diverse experiences, skills and knowledge that trainees can bring to us from their previous work experiences.
Potential applicants are welcome to visit the College for a tour and an opportunity to meet a senior member of staff. Please email Mr Paul Metcalfe (Assistant Headteacher) at
p.metcalfe@wyvern.hants.sch.uk for further information.
