Career Companion is an impartial and mediated review service of Careers, Learning and Support Information websites. This service is complemented by regular News bulletins and occasional supporting articles. It has been designed to help and support people of all ages at life’s key transitions from Year 9 (Age 13-14) pupils in school right through to adults planning for retirement. One to One Careers Interviews

Each Year 11 student will receive a one to one career interview –appointments will be advised to students via their tutors in registration. These are essential for your son or daughter especially if they are unsure of what they wish to do after they leave Wyvern or need any further reassurance. You are welcome to come along to these appointments if you wish. Students can request further interviews until they are confident in the choices they have made.

College Talks/Open Evenings

During assemblies students will have college talks from several of the most local colleges. They will be able to take home a prospectus for the local colleges and the dates for the Open Evenings at these institutions which start very soon. Later in the year we will also have a University coming in to talk to the students about life at University.

A list of Open Evenings for all the local colleges can be found here. Please visit as many of these as you can so that your son/daughter can make a fully informed decision about where they will go to next year.

Wyvern Careers Fair

We have our Year 11 Careers Fair on Tuesday 29th September from 18:00-19:30 in the main hall here at Wyvern. Please come along with your son/daughter to meet with many local colleges, training and apprenticeship providers and employers.

Careers Drop In

We will also be running a Careers drop in session every Thursday lunchtime in the library. Please encourage your son/daughter to come and see us if they have any questions about the colleges, the application process or apprenticeships. We can also help with online applications.

College Applications

Applications for colleges need to be completed by the end of the Autumn term. The applications need to have a personal statement attached either electronically or printed out and attached to the  application form depending on how your son/daughter decided to apply. Personal Statements will be completed by the students during lesson time.

We provide lots of information via our Twitter Feed including important dates and information, apprenticeships and part time job opportunities. Please follow us @WyvernCareers

With this guidance we hope that your son/daughter will be fully informed to make the right decision about their future.

If you would like to discuss any of the careers process further, please do not hesitate to contact our Careers Adviser at school via email or by phone on 02380 603244.
