A careers guidance interview is an impartial, one-to-one meeting between a student and Mrs Bruce, a professionally qualified careers adviser. A guidance interview will last around 30 minutes. A careers guidance interview is not like a job interview – there are no right or wrong answers.
You can request an appointment by emailing careers@wyvern.hants.sch.uk or in person at the careers office.
Each Year 10/11 student will receive a one to one career interview –appointments will be advised to students via their tutors in registration. These are essential for students, especially if they are unsure of what they wish to do after they leave Wyvern or need any further reassurance. You are welcome to come along to these appointments if you wish.
Students can request further interviews until they are confident in the choices they have made.
During assemblies students will have college talks from several of the most local colleges. They will be able to take home a prospectus for the local colleges and the dates for the Open Evenings at these institutions which start very soon. Later in the year we will also have a University coming in to talk to the students about life at University.
General information and details of Open Evenings for the local colleges can be found by clicking here. Please visit as many of these as you can so that your son/daughter can make a fully informed decision about where they will go to next year.
We also run a Careers drop in session every break time in the careers office (Monday to Thursday). Please encourage your son/daughter to come and see us if they have any questions about Year 8 Options, information on careers, Post 16 colleges, apprenticeships and higher education including university and higher/degree apprenticeships.
We can also help with online applications, writing a CV and information on work experience and volunteering.
In Year 7-11, students will take part in careers activities, every half term term during tutor time. Students also receive careers education in RPS and in other subject areas, linking careers to what students learn in school.
Each year we also run events for National Careers and Apprenticeships Week.
Applications for colleges need to be completed by the end of the Autumn term. The applications need to have a personal statement attached either electronically or printed out and attached to the application form depending on how your son/daughter decided to apply. Personal Statements will be completed by the students during lesson time and home learning
We provide lots of information via our social media pages, including important dates and information, apprenticeships and part time job opportunities. Please follow us @WyvernCareers or via our Instagram page @wyvern_careers
With this guidance we hope that your son/daughter will be fully informed to make the right decision about their future.
If you would like to discuss any of the careers provision further, please contact Mrs Katie Bruce, Careers Leader, at school via email careers@wyvern.hants.sch.uk or by phone on 02380 692679.
