A wonderful menu was served to staff and students including:
Sweet potato, spinach and feta swirls or falafel, served with oregano garlic potatos & greek salad
Gyros chicken served with a warm wrap or pita, as well as tzatziki, cabbage salad, seasoned chips and greek salad
Vocal Festival

Well done to all those who performed at this years vocal festival. It was wonderful to see our fantastic Wyvern singers leading and inspiring the younger singers, and creating a real buzz of excitement throughout the festival.
Our 10 vocal ambassadors in years 8-10 confidently led vocal warm-ups in each school, before performing two of the songs we will be singing on the day. We invited the juniors to give us some feedback- all still work in progress!
The Wyvern Cluster Schools Vocal Festival took place last week at Thornden Hall and was a wonderful celebration of singing and young voices coming together. Pupils from Fair Oak Juniors, Stoke Park Juniors, Durley, Upham, Stoke Park Infants and Fair Oak infants’ schools came together with the Wyvern College Choir and performed a selection of uplifting and empowering songs with the theme of ‘Believe- Songs of Strength and Courage.’
During the Day, all choirs had vocal workshops with our brilliant Vocal coach Becky from Sound Pop Academy in Southampton, who enabled our singers to add energy and performance quality into their singing. Mike from Sound Pop Academy assisted Becky with the workshops and added another level to the performance by introducing choreography- the singers responded so well to this and gained a new level of confidence in their performances.
Songs such as ‘Magic in Me’, ‘Unstoppable’, and ‘There’s Nothing Holding Me Back’ were so uplifting and performed brilliantly. The Wyvern senior choir finished their section with a performance of ‘My Shot’ from Hamilton featuring 5 soloists who were all fantastic.
Our Wyvern Vocal ambassadors were supportive to the younger singers, singing with them, helping them during rehearsals and becoming role models for them in their performances.
The event concluded with a massed performance of ‘Never Forget’ by Take That, complete with audience participation- it was fantastic- the Hall was filled with the joy of singing and the magic and power that music brings- well done everyone who was involved in this very special event.
Changes @Wyvern
Wyvern's New Canopy
Friends of Wyvern is proud to share a major milestone for our school community.
After two years of fundraising, we have secured over £10,000 to provide the seating under the new canopy by the All-Weather Pitch.
This will create an all-weather space for lunch, conversation, quiet study and clubs- with shade in summer and shelter on wet breaks.
A sincere thank you to all students, parents, staff, and businesses who have donated, helped at events, and supported us in so many ways. Your backing has made this possible!
The Forge
At Wyvern we are pleased to share with you our plans to create a small-scale alternative setting within Wyvern to open in May for students whose behaviour regularly disrupts college life and provide them with a curriculum that teaches them the skills and knowledge they need to successfully change their attitudes and behaviours so they can reintegrate successfully back into the mainstream. We will call this centre The Forge.
The symbolism of an actual forge helps us communicate it's purpose to students: “The Forge is a place to help you shape and strengthen your attitudes and choices, just like metal is shaped and strengthened in a real forge. Here, you get the help and tools you need to turn your challenges into strengths and your talents into achievements. It’s a safe place to cool down, reshape, and grow stronger, so you can return to lessons feeling confident and ready to succeed.” The Forge will also be based in a classroom which is situated in the Design and Technology department.
We believe that The Forge will provide the right setting and experiences to tackle the causes of some students' poor behaviour and meet their complex needs which it is not possible to meet through the teaching of a mainstream curriculum in mainstream classrooms.
At the same time, we believe this will further reduce disruption to teaching and learning in mainstream classrooms across the college and that therefore, indirectly, all students will benefit from The Forge.
Special mention
Thank you very much to our dedicated site and cleaning teams for all your hard work maintaining the grounds, building up The Forge, and the daily effort to keep the school a clean facility that we can be proud of. We are lucky to have such a fantastic team for our school!
Wyvern's School Production 2026
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Congratulations to the cast and crew of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. A fantastic show with incredible performances and production.
Over 100 students took part in the production. Actors, musicians, stage crew, and set/costume designers are just a few of the roles that our students have tackled brilliantly to create the fantastic final result.
The show was a huge success, with captivated audiences each night of the run.
Thank you to all staff, students, parents and carers, who have helped make this production happen!
World Book Day 2026
World Book Day Celebrations -Wyvern Style
Many members of staff have come into college dressed as a character from their favourite book and they have shared extracts from those books with students in lessons.
It is important for students to read a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction to better understand how language can be used and to encounter different sets of vocabulary. In reception we have the quote from Joseph Addison, “reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body,”
We also know that reading helps students understand other people, to show empathy and to appreciate other people’s perspectives. When they read, students understand what characters are thinking and feeling and why they make the decisions they do. Through reading they can escape into imaginary worlds, their creativity increases; when they read for pleasure, their wellbeing improves.
At Wyvern we celebrated in style with staff sharing the books and characters that have had an ‘Influence’ on them in their lives, dressing up as characters and reading extracts in class.
We are lucky to have access to a beautiful school library with a plethora of books for many different interests helping our students to celebrate reading.
Through reading we are able to explore new worlds and ideas, sharing our triumphs and disasters and increasing our creative and word power!
Great Work @Wyvern
Tate's writing P3
Congratulations to Tate in Year 8 for obtaining a P3 for her fantastic writing skills!
His class teacher comments: "Well done on an outstanding piece of writing! This level of progress has been achieved through consistent hard work and focus in every lesson. You always engage, contribute, ask thoughtful questions, and act carefully on feedback, showing a clear determination to improve. Your work on Macbeth's letter demonstrates a strong understanding of Macbeth's character and the plot of the play, as well as resilience and ambition."
You have worked hard to exceed your targets. Keep aiming high - well done!
Susannah's Outstanding Commitment P3
This P3 was awarded to Susannah for her outstanding commitment to Performing Arts at Wyvern. She was one of our 3 comperes for both nights of the concert, and when another student was unable to attend, Susannah took a lead without fuss or hesitation, spending her own time re-writing the script to make it work.
She went above and beyond, helping younger students at the event, offering to help hand out instruments to make the transitions run smoothly, as well as helping to clear the stage ready for performances. She delivered her hosting role superbly and used her initiative to write the script, adding in creative interjections and keeping the audience entertained.
She went out of her way to help me and remained calm in what could be a high-pressured event. Susannah also attended every rehearsal for the college production, even though she wasn't performing in the show- she wanted to be part of the event and took a directing role helping both staff and students with rehearsals and preparation.
Susannah really is an excellent role-model and we are proud to grant her this award.
Alfie's exceptional Times Tables software
Alfie is being awarded a P3 (Exceptional Achievement) in recognition of an outstanding piece of work completed independently in his own time.
As a Year 8 student, he has designed and coded a high-quality times tables practice programme that he and his classmates can use to strengthen their fluency. The software is thoughtfully built, with clear gamification features such as timers, difficulty levels, and a fun, user-friendly interface that keeps users engaged while practising.
This is an exceptional achievement for a student of his age and shows impressive technical skill, creativity, perseverance, and a genuine desire to help others learn. We are extremely proud of him for taking the initiative to create something so purposeful and effective, and for making a positive contribution to the wider learning community.
Football District Cup Winners
Our Year 8&9 girls football team put in a fantastic performance to win the district cup, showing great determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship from start to finish.
The team made a slow start but found their feet and their form about 15 minutes into the game. They started to play with energy and confidence, working hard to move the ball and support one another across the pitch. Their communication and effort were clear to see, and it paid off with some excellent passages of play.
The opposition provided a strong challenge, but our players remained focused and resilient. Our defence stayed organised under pressure, making some crucial tackles and interceptions, while our goalkeeper made several impressive saves to keep us in the game. We went into half time at 0-0 so it was all to play for in the second half.
In the second half, the team continued to build on their strong finish to the first half, showing great determination and never giving up. Their hard work was rewarded with a fantastic volley into the top from a corner ball, and just like that we were 1-0 up.
The girls kept pressing and we were able to get the second through a slick through ball being played to our striker and for her to slot into the bottom corner. The opposition were then dominating the play for a period, and we were lucky to hold onto a clean sheet. We were able to gain a third goal on the break which secured our striker with a hat trick for the day to make it 3-0. The opposing team found the grit and determination to fight back to 3-1 with a goal from a deserving player.
Overall, it was a brilliant team performance that reflected the effort and commitment shown in training. The players should be extremely proud of themselves, not just for the result, but for the positive attitude and respect they showed throughout.
Congratulations to all the girls involved: Lyra, Mia, Sophie, Amelia, Elin, Lyra, Freya, Flo, Alisia, Lottie, Florence and Kaitlyn…... and to Miss Fitzgerald.

Megan went on to compete in the Inter-Counties Cross-Country at Aldershot as part of a 20 strong Hampshire squad. The sun shone and it was a glorious day. Megan was strong and determined thorough her run and wasn't fazed by the exceptional field of runners. She did herself proud, despite running not being her favoured sport, she is a Junior Premier League footballer.
Megan overall placed 52nd out of a field of 72 against some of the strongest counties in the country and was 12th Hampshire girl home. The Year 7 girls’ team did exceptionally well placing 2nd in silver position.
Winning Marwell Zoo Photography
Well done to Mia and Jack in Year 8 for their amazing winning photos from the Marwell trip photography challenge.
All other entries have received praise points for their fantastic efforts. Well done year 8!!
La Fête des Rois
On the 6th January Mrs Evans' year 7 class celebrated the French tradition of La Fête des Rois and the students learned about the history of this festival of the three kings.
They looked at videos of French children making the special cake, and then choosing the youngest family member to hide under the table and choose which person gets each slice of galette. They were amused to find that the person who finds a "fève", or figurine, hidden in their slice becomes the King or Queen for the day - they wear a paper crown and are allowed to be in charge for the day!
The class worked on translating the recipe into English and then some students and their families chose to make the recipe at home for fun. Well done to them for this wonderful homework effort!
Fantastic German language year 7 pet posters
Well done to the Year 7 students in Mrs Sturdy’s Class for their fantastic posters about lost pets!
They used their dictionary skills to find new adjectives for use in their eye-catching posters.
Pi Day
Our students have been producing some great work in lessons.
Students celebrated Pi Day early (3/14 if you look at the American calendar) with some tasty Pi themed desserts.
Students demonstrated both mathematical as well as culinary skills for this great work!
Year 8 'Good work Shout outs'
Thank you to staff for submitting positive 'shout outs' for classes and individuals who have really impressed them either with their standard of work, contributions in class, effort levels or kindness to others.
Congratulations for a double mention for Rayah from two members of staff for her resilience, effort and beautiful artwork.
Another shout out goes to Roma for being an outstanding and upstanding member of our Wyvern community - a kind and brave young lady who has cemented herself as a role model for others to follow.
Top achievement points earners this term goes to Seb (8D2), Alyssa (8G2) and Ethan (8H2) - well done and keep it up!

Wyvern Out and About
Sunnybank Bingo
Some of our lovely year 9 students extended their Wyvern Kindness Challenge by visiting Sunnybanks Care Home to play Bingo with the residents.
This was a lovely way to extend kindness to the community, and was a fun activity for the students and residents to share!
Perins Football Match
Really well done to the Year 8 boys 7 a side team who won a local football tournament at Perins School.
They made it through the group stage to the final and typically took it to the wire by winning on penalties.
Huge congratulations to Rhys, Mitchell, Ethan, Seb, Jacob, Reuben, Indie, Daniel, Finley and Cian.
Duke of Edinburgh walks
Despite forecasts of torrential rain, both Bronze groups somehow managed to avoid the worst of the weather.
Walking routes around Fritham and Frogham in the New Forest, each team successfully covered approximately 20km with great energy and determination. In fact, the only real shower of Sunday seemed to land directly over Mr Brewerton’s group, much to everyone else’s amusement! Spirits remained high regardless, and the group carried on brilliantly.
A special mention goes to those students who turned up in intentionally in matching outfits, proudly showing off their coordinated expedition style. It certainly made a few groups look like fully-fledged DofE squads ready for action!
Teamwork was a strong theme throughout the weekend, with students sharing responsibilities, encouraging one another, and keeping morale high from start to finish.
This weekend provided valuable practice in:
• Map reading and navigation
• What to do if they walk off their planned route
• Decision-making within a team
A few missed turns and discussion about where on the map they were, a group did wander off course (with staff supervision!)— an ideal learning opportunity.
They put their training into action by stopping, assessing their surroundings, identifying landmarks, and safely returning to their mapped route. A great example of independence and problem-solving in a real expedition setting.
To break up the miles, there were plenty of games — with many rounds of Imposter being played. It kept everyone entertained and brought lots of laughter to the day.
We are incredibly proud of all students for their positive attitude, teamwork, and resilience. They have made an excellent start to their expedition preparation, and we’re looking forward to seeing them develop further as we head toward the qualifying expedition later this year.

The Festival of Young Composers
Ex-student Lola entered the Festival of Young Composers and took part in the live adjudication in Petersfield on Sunday 8th February.

She performed in front of a live audience and a panel of expert composers.
After performing her original song ‘Wasn’t Love’ she had a discussion with the judges about her songwriting process and was given some excellent feedback.
They complimented Lola on her interesting lyric-writing, her effective chord-writing and melodies.
Lola was given some helpful constructive feedback on how to take her songs to the next level and also received a certificate for taking part! This was a fantastic experience for her.
